Residential No-Charge Energy Saving Program

Posted: Mar 24 2017 News

The Residential No-Charge Energy Saving Program offers direct, no-charge installation of energy products in Albertan’s homes or condos. All Alberta households are eligible to participate regardless of income or housing type. Once you register for the program and give details about your home, an Energy Efficiency Alberta installer will visit your home and conduct a walk through to identify potential opportunities for energy-efficient upgrades at no charge. Most homes can be upgraded in about an hour.

Installations begin in early April 2017, but you can
sign up now to be among the first people to get energy-efficient products at no charge.

Ecofitt is a Canadian company that will manage the delivery of the Residential No-Charge Energy Savings Program for Energy Efficiency Alberta.

Who is eligible?

Home Owners: The program is available to all Albertans in both rural and urban areas. When you sign up using the online registration form, input your address in both the ‘street number’ and ‘street name’ fields, even if you use a PO Box or other rural address. Ecofitt will confirm your address when they call to schedule your appointment in April.

Condo/Apartments: If you are a condo unit owner, you are eligible for upgrades in your own suite. Ecofitt will be asking for your condo board or building manager contact information when scheduling appointments, as they will be working to coordinate installs in condo/apartment buildings through the condo board/building manager.

Tenants/Renters: Even if you don’t own the house, you are still eligible for upgrades through approval by the unit owner. All tenants need to do is to provide the contact information for their landlord on the online registration form. Once the tenant includes their landlord's information, Ecofitt will take it from there.

How does it work?

Getting your no-charge, energy-efficient products is easy:

  • Fill out the form at www.efficiencyalberta.ca to register.
  • You’ll receive a call to schedule your installation, and a second call from the installer the day prior to their visit.
  • The day of your appointment, a trained installer, wearing his/her Energy Efficiency Alberta shirt and badge, will come to your home at the time that you had confirmed (with the homeowner’s approval) in a clearly marked Ecofitt minivan. The installer will conduct a walk-through assessment of its efficiency.
  • The installer will upgrade your home with energy-efficient products, and show you how to use them. Most installations don’t take longer than an hour. The installer will take the old products and responsibly recycle and dispose of them.
  • You’ll save money and conserve energy immediately. And the products are yours to keep at no charge.

What kinds of products are included?

The installation will be conducted by qualified installers who schedule home visits. All products being installed are Ecofitt branded products, except for the Ecobee thermostat. The products installed will be finalized when the installer visits your home. Installers will remove old products and replace them with more energy-efficient products, such as:

  • LED products to replace existing incandescent nightlights, light bulbs and exit signs
  • High-efficiency showerheads
  • Faucet aerators if no aerator is present
  • Advanced power bars
  • Smart (self-adjusting) thermostat to replace non-programmable thermostats
