Laurel Green’s new school, named after Svend Hansen, an Edmonton Public Schools’ teacher, principal, consultant and trustee, will accommodate around 900 students from kindergarten to Grade 9. The school is located on the northwest corner of 16 Avenue and 24 Street NW in the Laurel neighborhood.
REGISTRATION
Schools start accepting registration forms for new students to the District on February 1, 2017. If your child is new to Edmonton Public Schools, you'll need to complete a Student Registration form. Because all the new schools are still under construction, you can submit a completed registration form at any District school. The school will make sure your registration package is delivered to the principal of Svend Hansen School.
When registering at a school:
• make sure the school knows you'd like to register for Svend Hansen School
• bring your completed Student Registration form
• bring two legal documents confirming your address
• bring legal proof of the student’s name, citizenship and birth date
If your child is currently attending a District school and would like to transfer to the new Svend Hansen school for the 2017-2018 school year, you can select the school by signing in to your parent SchoolZone account to pre-enroll between March 13 and April 18.
Students living in the attendance area are guaranteed entrance to the school. Students living outside the attendance area may be accepted if there is still room for students in the attendance area have been accommodated.
ATTENDANCE AREA
The Superintendent has approved the following attendance area for Svend Hansen School:
The following neighborhoods are designated to Svend Hansen School: Laurel East and Laurel West.
• Students who live in Laurel East and West and who are currently enrolled at Daly Grove School in Kindergarten to Grade 5 will be redirected to Svend Hansen School, effective for the 2017-18 school year.
• Svend Hansen School will have a secondary attendance area for the Laurel Northwest neighborhood. This means, once all students from the primary attendance area have been accepted at Svend Hansen School, students in the secondary attendance area are given priority to fill available spaces. If the number of students who want to attend from the secondary attendance area exceeds the available space, they will be chosen by random selection.
• Yellow bus service will be provided for eligible elementary students living in Laurel West.
For questions about yellow bus service, contact Student Transportation at 780-429-8585.
The school will carefully manage enrolment to make sure there’s room for new students who move into the school’s primary attendance area, and we hope this will minimize the need to change attendance areas in the future.
