New School Under Construction Now

With the rapid increase in Edmonton’s population in the last five years, many young families are deciding to live in new “family friendly” communities like Laurel Green.

Laurel Green is a community where families enjoy affordable home prices, parks, a new playground, pedestrian pathways and now a brand new public school set to open in September 2017.

The new K-9 public school is under-construction at the corner of 16 Avenue and 24 Street NW. The school is named after Svend Hansen, an Edmonton Public Schools’ teacher, principal, consultant and trustee. The school is opening for the 2017-2018 school year and will accommodate 900 students. The school will also have before and after school care programs. Students currently attending Daly Grove school will be redirected to Laurel School in September,2017.

School is critical for young families. Now your kids can walk or cycle to school. Walking one mile to and from school each day is two-thirds of the recommended sixty minutes of physical activity a day. Plus, children who walk to school have higher levels of physical activity throughout the day.
